A story beneath the pines

Villa Pineta rests beneath the canopies of more than one hundred maritime pines, planted in the 1940s to provide shelter during the summer months.

Where sea and hillside breezes meet

Set within over two hectares of pine trees, the villa lies just twenty minutes from Lecce and ten minutes from the coast. This auspicious setting is defined by intertwining winds and shifting light.

Throughout the day, Villa Pineta becomes an ever-changing landscape of shadows and reflections.

From the 1940s until the early 2000s, the villa was home to three generations of the same family, before being abandoned. In the meantime, nature continued to flourish around it, leaving the house secluded beneath the shade of the pines.

In 2020, a thoughtful renovation brought light and openness to spaces that had once been enclosed—originally designed to offer protection from the intense sun and heat.

The trees rise up to fifteen metres above the grounds, a canopy that has been growing for eighty years.

The 20-metre lap pool

A slender pool, a grassy slope

Mediterranean vegetation grows throughout the park. At its heart is a slender, 20-metre swimming pool designed for laps.

From here, a grassy slope unfolds—a place to relax among stone terraces whose changing levels create unexpected geometries.

Arranged entirely on one level, the villa features five double bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom. Inside: a generous living area beneath star-vaulted ceilings, two dining rooms, two kitchens and an inner garden.

Outside, a travertine platform surrounds a triangular reflecting pool set beneath the shade of a monumental eucalyptus tree.

Terrazzo floors, travertine details, stone bathrooms and timber-clad walls. These materials form a dialogue with the clean-lined furniture designed by Piet Hein Eek and Sam Chermayeff.

Expansive windows and the moving light bring both the architecture and its furnishings into focus at different moments of the day.

The main living room is framed by large arched windows overlooking the surrounding garden. Beyond the glass, the landscape appears as a soft green haze—native Mediterranean varieties blended with specimens more commonly found in the warmer regions of Africa and Australia.
